About SMEC

At SMEC, you won’t just observe projects — you’ll contribute from day one.

We’re a global engineering consultancy delivering major infrastructure, transport, water, energy and urban development projects. From the Snowy Mountains Scheme to today, our work is focused on shaping communities and creating real-world impact.

As part of the Surbana Jurong Group, we connect you to a global network of 16,000+ professionals across 40+ countries — while still offering hands-on experience within local project teams.

As a family‑friendly employer, we offer flexible working arrangements and benefits including 18 weeks of universal paid parental leave. We are proud to foster an inclusive culture that supports gender equity, LGBTI+ inclusion and First Nations representation, with access to strong professional networks, role models, and mentoring and sponsorship programs.

The Opportunity

Join SMEC as an Undergraduate Engineer and gain paid, real-world experience alongside your studies.

We offer opportunities across multiple disciplines, including:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Transport / Roads & Highways
  • Water Engineering & Environmental Engineering
  • Sustainability & Energy
  • Electrical / Mechanical Engineering

You’ll work on live projects, build technical capability, and develop your understanding of consulting — all while studying.

Your Role

As an Undergraduate Engineer, you will:

  • Support engineering design, modelling and analysis
  • Assist with technical reports and project documentation
  • Contribute to project delivery across multidisciplinary teams
  • Gain exposure to site work and field activities (where relevant)

You’ll build practical skills across both technical and consulting environments, setting you up for a graduate role.

About You

We’re looking for students who:

  • Are studying Engineering (civil, structural, environmental, mechanical, electrical or similar)
  • Have an interest in infrastructure, sustainability or the built environment
  • Are proactive, curious and eager to learn
  • Work well in collaborative team environments

Why Join SMEC

  • Work on major infrastructure and community-shaping projects
  • Gain hands-on experience while you study
  • Learn from experienced engineers and industry leaders
  • Access mentorship, structured learning and on-the-job development
  • Build a pathway into our Graduate Development Program

You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, take initiative and develop your career from early on.
