Sydney, Australia

At Riot, we believe in putting players first. Our Sydney-based team collaborates globally to build next-generation game features and technology on an exciting Unpublished R&D Title. Whether it's backend systems, client features, performance tooling, or player-facing experiences, we create the infrastructure and features that shape player and developer satisfaction.

As a Software Engineer I, you will work on foundational systems and features that power a new R&D gameplay experience. You'll join a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and producers focused on building scalable, performant, and user-centric solutions. This role is ideal for early-career engineers who are eager to learn and contribute in a high-impact, collaborative environment. You will report to the Engineering Manager of your team.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain software systems with guidance from senior engineers
  • Contribute to the development and testing of client, backend, and tooling features
  • Participate in code reviews and apply engineering best practices
  • Debug and resolve development issues in collaboration with teammates
  • Write clear documentation to support team knowledge sharing

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience in professional software development
  • Proficiency in C++ and familiarity with software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, etc.)
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to learn new systems and tools

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine or other game engines
  • Experience with version control systems such as Perforce or Git
  • Exposure to multiplayer systems, content pipelines, telemetry, or build systems
  • Proficiency with Go and/or backend microservices

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about players' experiences, this could be your role!

Working closely with Riot teams globally, Riot Sydney is a powerhouse of talent, and experts in global development. Our team works on VALORANT, League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics, alongside exciting R&D and Tech projects.

If you believe that the Player Experience comes first, we want to hear from you. Our players are a diverse group from different backgrounds, and we want to see that reflected in the people who make our games, all qualified applicants will be considered for employment

Our Perks:

At Riot we strongly believe in work/life balance, and we encourage that with our open paid time off policy, paid parental leave (for both primary and secondary carers) and flexible work schedules to fit your lifestyle.

We also believe that work should be fun, we have a LAN gaming room, the latest consoles, a play fund so you can broaden and deepen your knowledge of our players and community, and all the snacks you would ever need to power through your day (even healthy snacks!).

  • Wellbeing Reimbursement
  • We will double down on your donations of time and money to non-profits
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Learning and Development opportunities
