PSYCHOLOGISTS & SOCIAL WORKERS

Are you an experienced clinician who wants to work in a role that directly promotes the best interests of children?

Are you looking for a clinical role that is flexible and can work around your other commitments, such as caring responsibilities or other clinical practice?

The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia is seeking experienced registered Psychologists and qualified Social Workers to provide high quality family assessment reports for Court.

Successful applicants would not be employees of the Court but would be appointed as a Panel Family Consultant pursuant to Regulation 40 of the Family Law Regulations 2024 (Cth), for the purpose of providing Family Reports. They may also be required to attend Court hearings to provide evidence under cross examination in relation to those reports. Panel Family Consultants are paid for these services in accordance with a set schedule of fees.

Family Reports are ordered by the Court to assist in making decisions about parenting in family law proceedings. The Panel Family Consultant interviews and observes adults and children in order to assess risk factors and family dynamics relevant to the issues in dispute. They then provide a formal report to assist the Court in establishing what arrangements are in the best interests of the children.

The Panel Family Consultant is:

  • supported by clinical guidelines and other resources
  • provided with regular professional development and peer discussion opportunities
  • provided with a comprehensive orientation to the role upon their appointment.
Applications are sought from experienced clinicians from all metropolitan, regional and rural areas.

Applicants must be either a registered Psychologist or eligible for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers and have a minimum of 5 years’ post graduate relevant experience including in conducting assessments with children and families. Applicants should also have access to appropriate consulting rooms. Experience in writing assessment reports is desirable.
