About us
Canteen is dedicated to supporting young people and their families affected by cancer. Founded by young cancer patients, our mission is to provide essential programs, services, and resources that positively impact the lives of 12–25-year-olds facing their own diagnosis, dealing with a close family member's cancer, or grieving the loss of a loved one. We believe in the transformative power of our team, and together, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
Canteen, Camp Quality and Redkite are working together to provide Cancer Hub – a digital hub to help families impacted by cancer more easily access the practical and emotional support they need, when they need it.
Online Support is one service offered by Cancer Hub. The primary focus is to provide digital therapeutic, evidence-based interventions to young people aged 12-25, and to parents/carers of children and young people aged 0-25, with a cancer experience; and to moderate and develop online community Canteen Connect.
Online Counsellors (OCs) are social workers, psychologists and counsellors who specialise in the delivery of digital counselling via telephone, video and webchat for young people and parents/carers. They also participate in ensuring our online communities are safe, inclusive spaces that facilitate peer connection and access to information and support.
Online Counsellors work rostered shifts to cover the set opening hours of our ad-hoc chat and booked appointment service. OCs can be located across Australia (based at a Canteen office) but can work from home for some shifts during the week. They report to the Team Leader Online Support, as well as being supported by the Head of Cancer Hub, other Hub Team Leaders, and a Practice Lead.
About our benefits
We connect, we empower, we challenge, and we are real. These values ground the way we work at Canteen and Cancer Hub, and underpin a culture that brings people together, collectively, in an inspiring and positive way. Being a part of our team offers you a rewarding, purposeful and genuine experience, with endless opportunities. Find out more on our LinkedIn Life Page.
