Be part of a team supporting one of life's most important moments.
Every birth is unique, and behind every positive maternity experience is a dedicated team working together to provide safe, compassionate care. We're looking for an organised, customer-focused Ward Clerk to join our Maternity Services team at Tamworth Hospital. If you enjoy working with people, thrive in a busy environment, and take pride in keeping things running smoothly, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Team
Tamworth Maternity Services supports approximately 1,200 births each year and is a Level 3 acute maternity service within the Northern Sector of Hunter New England Local Health District.
As a regional referral service, we provide comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women with both low- and high-risk pregnancies from across the region. Our service includes:
- A 20-bed inpatient maternity ward with low- and high-risk birthing suites.
- A dedicated Antenatal Clinic.
- Midwifery-led care, shared care, and specialist obstetric services.
- Strong partnerships with community services, including the Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Service (AMIHS), to deliver culturally safe, family-centred care.
Our team is supportive, collaborative and passionate about providing exceptional care for women, babies and their families. We value respect, teamwork and continuous learning, creating an environment where every team member is recognised for the important role they play.
About the Role
As the Ward Clerk, you'll be a key member of the Maternity Unit, providing essential administrative and reception support that helps our clinical teams deliver outstanding patient care.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing professional reception and administrative support to the Maternity Unit.
- Welcoming patients, families and visitors while creating a positive first impression.
- Supporting clinicians with patient administration and ward documentation.
- Coordinating communication between multidisciplinary team members.
- Maintaining accurate records and managing confidential information.
- Assisting with the efficient day-to-day operation of the ward.
No two days are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, organisation and working as part of a busy healthcare team.
About You
We're looking for someone who is organised, approachable and enjoys supporting both patients and colleagues.
You'll bring:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A professional, reliable and confidential approach to your work.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- The ability to prioritise competing tasks in a busy environment.
- A calm, adaptable approach under pressure.
- A positive attitude and commitment to working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A genuine passion for delivering exceptional customer service and supporting quality patient care.
Previous healthcare administration experience is welcomed but not essential. We'll provide the training you need to succeed, including hospital systems, ward processes, medical terminology and administrative procedures.
How We'll Support You
From your first day, you'll be supported to build the knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in your role.
You'll receive:
- A tailored orientation program designed specifically for the Maternity Unit.
- Hands-on training in hospital information systems and administrative processes.
- Ongoing mentoring and support from the Nurse Unit Manager and experienced colleagues.
- A personalised education plan to support your professional growth.
- Access to learning and development opportunities through Hunter New England Local Health District and NSW Health.
