The John Hunter Hospital is a leading health care and innovation hub caring for the community of the Hunter, New England, and North Coast.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Surgical Services Department and work within a dynamic and busy 15 Operating Theatres unit at John Hunter Hospital. Our specialities include Ortho, Multi Trauma, Obstetrics, Gynaecological, Head & Neck, Vascular, Angiography, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic, ENT and General surgery.

You will encounter situations that require you to handle sensitive matters with empathy and professionalism.
About the role:
Join our busy and fast-paced Surgical Services team, where you'll provide essential administrative support to help keep our theatres running smoothly. This role is ideal for someone with excellent time management and communication skills who enjoys working collaboratively while also being confident managing tasks independently.
As the first point of contact for patients, clinicians and staff, you'll deliver high-quality customer service by responding to phone, email and in-person enquiries. You'll also code post-procedural operating theatre reports, enter data into SDPR, and complete daily audits and reports to maintain accurate records.
Working closely with nurses, clinicians and other internal and external stakeholders, you'll play an important role in coordinating patient flow and ensuring patients arrive on time for their procedures, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our theatres.
Shift times:
Week 1
- Monday: 2:45 pm to 9:15 pm (6 Hours)
- Tuesday: 2:45 pm to 9:15 pm (6 Hours)
- Wednesday: 2:45 pm to 9:15 pm (6 Hours)
Week 2
- Saturday: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm (8 Hours)
- Sunday: 2:45 pm to 6:45 pm (4 Hours)
- Monday: 2:45 pm to 9:15 pm (6 Hours)
- Tuesday: 2:45 pm to 9:15 pm (6 Hours)
- Wednesday: 2:45 pm to 9:15 pm (6 Hours)

They will receive a comprehensive orientation followed by a structured training program alongside our experienced Patient Support Officers within Surgical Services. This hands-on training is designed to provide a smooth transition into the role and build confidence across all aspects of the position.
In addition to face-to-face mentoring, employees will complete relevant online learning and have ongoing access to support from a friendly, knowledgeable team who are always willing to answer questions and assist one another. There are also ongoing education and career development opportunities available, supporting continuous learning and professional growth within the organisation.
