Irrigation Assistant

Burlington Berries is a family-owned, professionally managed soft fruit farm located in Cressy, Tasmania.

We produce fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries under contract with Driscoll's Australia.

The Irrigationist Assistant is responsible for assisting the Irrigation Manager to oversee the use of water resources to maintain soil/substrate health, and crops to maximise the growing of all crops and fruit yield/produced.

The Irrigation Assistant will help develop, implement, and manage water budgets, assist with the creation of; irrigation schedules, measure water usage and monitor plant health.

The Irrigation Assistant is responsible for ensuring their team operates safely and in line with any compliance frameworks

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Providing support and assistance to the Irrigation Manager in the following areas:

- Scheduling all the fertiliser and chemical injection settings.

- Ensuring the hydraulic parameters are suitable for the irrigation scheme.

- Installation of irrigation infrastructure

- Maintenance of irrigation infrastructure including pumping systems

- Supporting the development of the internal propagation

- Ensuring each crop is walked at least by the team.

- Identifying and reporting issue areas to the wider team to ensure timely corrections.

- Scheduling irrigation in line with the irrigation plan

- Recording water and fertiliser use and report on for each crop type.

- Performing daily water quality checks and recording results.

- Ensuring the technical team always operates in a safe way and leads improvements in managing key risk areas.

- Enabling collection and analysis of key technical data and timely reporting for the technical team reporting relevant information to coworkers when required.

- Contribute to the wider business strategy and vision across all areas.
