The

This Early Intervention clinician position work in collaboration with Youth Justice to provide specialist mental health care for young people at risk of entering the criminal justice system. Working within a multidisciplinary and state-wide collaborative framework, the role delivers early identification, assessment, intervention and consultation across school, community and telehealth settings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering evidence-based early intervention programs including School-Link and Teen Got It!
  • Conducting comprehensive mental health assessments of young people and their families or carers
  • Providing individual and group interventions via face-to-face and telehealth modalities
  • Offering clinical consultation to key stakeholders including schools, CAMHS, Youth Justice and internal Justice Health teams
  • Exercising independent professional judgement in complex clinical scenarios
  • Providing clinical supervision to junior clinicians and students
  • Contributing to service development, evaluation, research and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintaining outcome measures and reporting to support ongoing service evaluation

This is a senior clinical role requiring strong leadership capability, advanced clinical expertise, and the ability to work autonomously within a brief, early-intervention model of care.

Our team and service
Justice Health NSW is a state-wide, Board governed, Specialty Network delivering healthcare services to adults and young people who come into contact with, or who are at risk of coming into contact with, the criminal justice system, across secure inpatient, custodial, court and community settings.

The Early Intervention Team sits within Adolescent Forensic Mental Health and supports a range of programs aimed at intervening early for young people in contact with or risk of contact with the criminal justice system. Early Intervention encompasses two state-wide initiatives including School-Link and Getting in Early on Time (Got It!).

School Link is collaboration between NSW Ministry of Health and NSW Department of Education. School Link is one of a range of initiatives that was launched in 1999 to improve the mental health of adolescents and young people in NSW. School Link supports the early identification of mental health issues for young people and assists in identifying the pathways to care for students with mental health problems and disorders. Additionally, the School Link initiative aims to improve the mental health literacy of schools, TAFE NSW and other learning environments. The Early Intervention clinician will work in a formal state-wide collaboration with School Link Coordinators from other Local Health Districts to support the implementation of school based mental health promotion, prevention programs and early intervention programs for young people who are in contact with the criminal justice system.

The Teen Got It! program provides evidence-informed early-intervention for young people with disruptive behaviour disorders. Clinicians work with young people and their parent/carer to increase their knowledge and capacity to better manage emotions and behaviours, and subsequently reduce their risk of recurrent criminality, poor mental health, difficulties with personal relationships and poor educational achievement. The program is delivered through a group intervention in schools and a telehealth state-wide individual intervention for young people and their caregiver.

Salary and Benefits
Your annual salary in line with your grade classification plus superannuation is just the beginning. You will also have access to a number of benefits:

  • Genuine career progression and skill-set development.
  • Support from an enthusiastic and invested team of managers and colleagues.
