What you'll be doing
Responsible for delivering a range of operational laboratory activities, including microscopic screening and reporting of non-gynaecological (non-gyn) and fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens. The role involves attendance at FNAs, triaging cases, and providing Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE), as well as preparing laboratory and ROSE specimens.
The position also supports participation in RCPA QAP modules, maintains effective use of the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and contributes to scientific and technical training. Additionally, the role is involved in the review, development, and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with operational and quality standards, while supporting continuous process improvement.

Interested in joining Australia’s largest public pathology service? Apply now by addressing the following questions:
- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to Cytopathology from a recognised tertiary institution. CT (ASC) qualification is essential.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a routine diagnostic Cytology Laboratory with recent skills in the preparation and reporting of Rapid On Site Evaluation (ROSE) of Fine Needle aspirate biopsies, including EBUS, EUS and Non-Gyn Cytology.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment while working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes and contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory
- Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment, with the ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
- Current NSW C‑Class driver's licence (P1 or P2 accepted) is required. Interstate C‑Class licence holders must obtain an NSW C‑Class licence within three months of appointment. Learner licences are not accepted.
