Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fifth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing, transport and health care. The Goulburn Valley is often referred to as 'The Food Bowl of Australia' as around 25% of the total value of Victoria's agricultural production is generated in this area.

Greater Shepparton has a population of approximately 69,000 and is culturally rich with 17.4% of residents being born overseas. The area has excellent education, recreation, cultural, social and health facilities and tourism is a developing focus for the region.

Animal Shelter Officer


Hourly Rate: $37.91 per hour (plus 25% casual loading)

Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking skilled staff to join the casual pool of staff at the Shepparton Animal Shelter.

This role will suit people who are motivated, reliable, energetic and able to provide a high standard of domestic animal care. The position is ideal for someone interested in advancing their career in the animal care industry or looking to have flexibility for their work/life balance.

The Animal Shelter cares for around 2,000 lost and surrendered animals per year with a strong record of finding new homes for our animals or reuniting them with their loved ones.

Key tasks include:

  • Cleaning, medicating, feeding and assessing animals
  • Providing a high level of customer service to the community
  • Maintaining high levels of cleanliness and disease control
  • Educating the community about animal care and wellbeing
  • Administration duties including accurate record keeping

If you have completed or are working towards a relevant certificate in an animal field such as vet nursing or animal management, and have experience in handling and caring for animals, this may be the role for you!
