Primary objective
As a member of a school team and under the direction of the Principal and Business Manager, the Maintenance Officer is required
to play a key role in ensuring the high standard of security, maintenance, safety and presentation associated with the day-to-day
physical conditions of the school while acting in accordance with the NTPS Code of Conduct.
Context statement
Sadadeen Primary School includes the KITES program, Nathalie Gorey Preschool and Ida Standley Preschool located in the eastern
suburbs of Alice Springs with an approximate enrolment of 180 students, P-6. Many of our students are from diverse cultural
backgrounds, including a cohort of approximately 75% who are Aboriginal. We work closely with our families, allied health
professionals and agencies within Alice Springs to support the inclusion and engagement needs of our students, 60% of whom
have an additional need or disability indicator. We provide many pathways and programs that allow all learners to participate in
rich learning programs including a focus on Trauma Informed practices and wellbeing across all year levels.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assume responsibility for the maintenance of both buildings and surrounds by regular inspections and reporting defects,
including overseeing the satisfactory completion of repairs referred to outside contractors.
2. Carry out a range of tasks to maintain school premises are in a clean and tidy condition, undertake a range of landscaping and
gardening duties as required including student garden beds.
3. Monitor and maintain all areas in and around the school and ensure that duties involving work health and safety are effectively
addressed and be a part of the WHS Committee.
4. Carry out minor purchases, collection and distribution of stores, mail/courier and moving furniture & fittings as required.
5. Assist with school excursions, camps, concerts, sports days and other special events as required, as well as act as bus driver as
required.
6. Manage and adhere to maintenance budget and report to Business Manager daily.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrate ability to carry out inspections and minor maintenance of buildings.
2. Building and ‘general handyman’ experience with the ability to produce a high standard of finish work in a timely manner.
Ability to determine priorities, meet deadlines and work independently.
3. Experience in working within the framework of the Work Health and Safety Guidelines.
4. Liaise with and monitor the work of outside contractors.
5. Understand all issues pertaining to the security of the premises and surrounds, and the ability to monitor the implementation
and effective management of school security and communicate.
6. Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team, the ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures.
7. A current Working with children clearance notice (Ochre Card) and Current NT C driver’s licence.
Desirable
1. Current NT LR drivers’ licence.
2. Trade qualifications or building maintenance experience.
