Social Media + Content Creator
Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC)Part-Time | 20 hours per week | Remote / Hybrid (Melbourne preferred)
Who we are
The Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) is the national peak body representing Australia’s professional hairdressing and barbering industry.
We advocate for businesses, champion education, deliver national events, and support thousands of salon owners, barbers, educators and apprentices across the country.
Now we’re looking for someone to help tell those stories.
Not just someone who posts on social media.
But someone who sees the moment, has the idea, and can’t wait to create it.
If you’re the kind of person who spots trends early, knows what makes people stop scrolling, loves creating content, and genuinely enjoys building community, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll own the day-to-day management of the AHC’s digital presence across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
From planning content calendars to filming Reels at national industry events, you’ll create content that educates, inspires and connects Australia’s hair and barbering community.
Your work will include:
- Creating engaging content across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
- Planning and scheduling monthly content calendars
- Shooting and editing Reels, Stories and short-form video
- Capturing photography and live event content
- Designing social graphics in Canva
- Writing captions and copy that feels authentic and on-brand
- Managing community engagement across all channels
- Monitoring trends, insights and platform updates
You’ll have real creative freedom, within a strong brand and clear marketing direction.
Beyond social media…
While social media is your core focus, this role naturally grows into broader marketing and campaign work.
You’ll gradually get involved in:
- EDM and email marketing
- Campaign support and creative development
- Website updates
- Event marketing and content coverage
- Member communications
- Digital advertising support
- Reporting and basic analytics
Exposure to digital marketing tools such as email platforms (e.g. Klaviyo), automation, funnels or CRM systems will be highly regarded as the role expands into broader campaign and member communications work.
We’ll provide the strategy and support. You bring the ideas and execution.
You’ll thrive in this role if you…
- Love creating content people actually engage with
- Can confidently shoot and edit on your phone
- Know your way around Reels, Stories and short-form video
- Use Canva confidently and efficiently
- Write well and adapt tone for different audiences
- Enjoy community engagement and building relationships online
- Like testing ideas and trying new formats
- Stay organised across multiple projects
- Are curious about AI and digital marketing tools
- Want to grow your career beyond just social media
Bonus points if you’ve worked in membership organisations, associations or not-for-profits, or have an interest in the hair, beauty or creative industries.
Why you’ll love working here
This isn’t a role where your ideas disappear into a spreadsheet.
You’ll create content at Australia’s biggest hair industry events, interview leading industry figures, support national campaigns, and help shape the voice of an entire sector.
Every week is different. Every project has impact.
You’ll work with a small, passionate team that values initiative, creativity and trust.
We care more about great ideas than where you work from.
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Experience managing social media for a brand or business
- Strong Canva skills
- Experience creating video content for social platforms
- Excellent written communication skills
- Basic photography skills
- Confidence working independently and managing deadlines
Experience with WordPress, Mailchimp (or similar), Meta Business Suite or Adobe Creative Suite is an advantage.
