We are seeking an individual who is passionate about shaping the future of transport in Western Australia. You will thrive on developing policies and supporting advocacy for initiatives that will make Western Australian roads safer, reduce vehicle emissions and better connect people and places.

As a Senior Public Policy Advisor, you will play a key role in RAC’s Public Policy team, providing credible, technically sound, fact-based research and advice to support RAC’s 2030 Vision for a safer, sustainable, and connected future for Western Australians.

This role reports to the Manager Road Safety Policy and is offered on a permanent, full-time basis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and data analysis to support and evolve RAC’s public policy positions.
  • Prepare reports, papers, submissions and communication materials suitable for publication.
  • Identify and support advocacy for strategic priorities that benefit RAC members and the community.
  • Identify and assess industry/research/policy trends and developments.
  • Provide expert responses to queries from members and external organisations.
  • Scope, commission and manage technically sound projects as required.
  • Design and analyse questions for RAC member surveys.
  • Contribute to the development of accurate media releases and content pieces that promote RAC’s Vision.
  • Develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders covering both government and industry.
  • Represent RAC on external committees and working groups as required, and present RAC research and insights to technical and non-technical audiences.

About you:

We’re looking for a strategic thinker with a passion for public policy and an interest in the transport sector. You’ll have:

  • A tertiary qualification in social or environmental sciences, public policy, transport planning, road safety, economics, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, developed through experience writing policy, discussion papers, submissions and reports and giving presentations.
  • Professional experience working for an advocacy group, transport or other State Government authority, local government, consultancy or similar.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with experience engaging government and industry stakeholders.
  • A high level of professionalism and integrity.
  • Proven ability to plan and organise work priorities within specified timeframes.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.

What can we offer you?

  • A workplace culture where our people feel valued, respected and empowered
  • Work in flexible ways that meet work/life commitments and support wellbeing
  • Professional career development and training
  • Free Roadside Assistance and discounts on RAC products and services including Insurance, Holiday Parks and Resorts, Security, Finance and Auto Services
  • Be part of a purpose led organisation that gives back to the WA community
  • Opportunities for community engagement and corporate volunteering
  • A very active Social Club – join one of the most active social clubs in Perth with over 900 members

To apply for this exciting opportunity, please submit a 1-page cover letter outlining your suitability and interest in the position along with your resume.
