Salary Range: $74,000 – $84,000 per annum

ICM Agribusiness Pty Ltd trading as Peechelba Beef runs a 27,000 head beef cattle feedlot that provides specialist feedlot rations to cattle. The property is spread over 685 hectares of fertile river flats with the feedlot constructed on the adjacent undulating terrain. The operation produces grain and fodder crops for use in mixed rations which are fed to cattle within the feedlot. We are seeking motivated and experienced livestock staff to join our team. The Beef Cattle Farmer will work as part of the livestock team to ensure livestock operations are conducted safely, efficiently and with animal welfare as a highest priority.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Raising livestock for the production of Meat.

2. Overseeing and undertaking feeding and nutrition programs

3. Monitoring and maintaining the health, welfare and condition of livestock, including developing and overseeing strategies to manage biosecurity and other risks.

4. Providing water and providing and growing pastures and fodder crops to maintain livestock health and condition.

5. Organising farming operations and routines such as catching, drenching livestock, sterilising machines.

6. Directing and overseeing general farming activities including the provision and maintenance of infrastructure such as fencing, pens, water supply systems.

7. Organising transportation of livestock.

8. Maintaining and evaluating records of farming activities, monitoring market activity and planning production accordingly.

9. Overseeing data collection and analysis and farm technology systems

10. May train and supervise staff and contractors.

11. Inspection of arrival cattle, pen walking, hospital management, treatment protocols, antimicrobial stewardship, QA and compliance relating to health and welfare with accurate records maintained regarding head numbers, weights, treatments, and the observed condition of the animals.

12. Conduct daily operational duties including drafting cattle for exit, induction processing of new cattle into the feedlot or backgrounding programs, pen movements and facility maintenance including but not limited to trough cleaning and hosing out work areas.

13. Operate in a way that ensures that the feedlot’s obligations for the safe and humane treatment of animals are complied with.

14. Operate in a way that ensures that the farm/feedlot’s obligations for Workplace Health & Safety are complied with.

15. Maintain a high standard of animal handling and husbandry procedures.

16. Operate in a way that promotes the efficient delivery and judicious use of pharmaceuticals and consumables used in that department.

17. Operate in a way that ensures the storage of pharmaceuticals and consumables in an efficient manner to ensure efficacy and reduce wastage.

18. Assist with day-to-day activities on the feedlot and maintain Best Management Practices to ensure clients are getting the best service the company can provide.

19. Represent Peechelba Beef in a highly professional manner, modelling behaviour that best serves company interests and actively fosters high performing team culture.

Position Criteria:

1. Relevant experience handling cattle in a manner that promotes their welfare and wellbeing

2. Ability to work in a team environment and at times under limited supervision.

3. Previous experience with handling cattle in an intensive feedlot environment would be considered advantageous.

4. Good attention to detail and an ability to keep accurate records.

5. An ability to follow set protocols and ensure compliance with relevant animal welfare, safety, and QA requirements.

6. A good working knowledge of safe work practices and requirements.

7. Basic machinery operation skills.

8. Basic computer literacy
