Perfect Opportunity for Ex-Teachers, Teacher’s Aides & Childcare Educators

Part-Time or Subcontractor Opportunities Available

We are looking for a warm, reliable and motivated Allied Health Assistant (AHA) to join our paediatric Occupational Therapy team.

This position would be particularly well suited to a ex-teacher, teacher’s aide, childcare educator or other professional with experience working with children who is looking for a change of career or the opportunity to work within the allied health field and children with disabilities.

Previous Allied Health Assistant experience is preferred, but not essential. Full training and ongoing support will be provided upon commencement.

***About the Role***

As an Allied Health Assistant, you will work with children with disabilities and families under the direction and supervision of an Occupational Therapist.

Your role may include:

  • Delivering therapy activities and programs developed by an Occupational Therapist
  • Working individually with children with disabilities to practice functional skills and independent living skills.
  • Supporting development of fine motor, gross motor, handwriting, self-care, play, social and emotional regulation skills
  • Implementing structured therapy programs and activities
  • Supporting children with disabilities to build independence and confidence
  • Providing feedback to the supervising Occupational Therapist regarding sessions and progress
  • Completing brief session documentation and administrative tasks
  • Communicating professionally with parents, carers, therapists and other members of the team
  • Travelling to appointments within the local community where required

Your ability to engage children with disabilities, build rapport, manage behaviour positively, follow structured programs and adapt activities to suit different children will be highly valued.

***What We’re Looking For***

The successful applicant will be:

  • Friendly, patient and confident working with children with disabilities
  • Reliable and professional
  • Able to build strong rapport with children and families
  • Comfortable following therapy programs and instructions provided by an Occupational Therapist
  • Highly organised with strong self-management and time-management skills
  • Able to manage their own appointments, documentation and daily workload
  • Confident working independently while also seeking guidance when required
  • Flexible and willing to learn
  • A clear and professional communicator

***Essential Requirements***

Applicants must:

  • Hold a current driver’s licence
  • Have access to their own reliable vehicle
  • Be willing and able to travel between appointments where required
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, a current Working With Children Check and Working with NDIS Clients Check
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, any other relevant screening/checks required for working within disability and paediatric services
