Full job description
Chief Executive
Health Education and Training Institute (HETI)
Health Service Senior Executive Band 3
Lead the future of workforce capability, leadership development and education across NSW Health
The Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) is NSW Health's statewide provider of workforce education, capability development and leadership training, supporting more than 140,000 clinical and non-clinical staff across the public health system. HETI plays a critical role in developing a skilled, capable and future-ready workforce that delivers high-quality, patient-centred care to communities across New South Wales.
As Chief Executive, you will lead a contemporary organisation that delivers statewide education, workforce capability and leadership development programs that underpin the performance and sustainability of the NSW Health workforce. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence system-wide workforce capability, leadership excellence, workforce mobility and organisational performance at scale.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Secretary, NSW Health, the Chief Executive is responsible for the strategic leadership, direction and performance of HETI and its statutory functions under the Health Services Act 1997. The role is accountable for ensuring HETI delivers high-quality, innovative and responsive education, training and workforce development services that support NSW Health's strategic priorities and workforce needs.
The Chief Executive will lead the next phase of HETI's evolution as NSW Health's statewide education and development pillar, supporting delivery of the Future Health Strategy and NSW Health Workforce Plan. Working across the health system, the role will strengthen consistency, quality, equity and effectiveness in workforce education and development, while positioning HETI as a centre of expertise and shared service provider for workforce capability and leadership development.
The successful candidate will drive statewide workforce capability strategies spanning clinical, non-clinical, management and executive workforces. This includes leadership development, talent management, succession planning, workforce mobility initiatives, vocational education and specialist training programs designed to enhance workforce capability and organisational performance.
The position also provides executive oversight of HETI's Registered Training Organisation, learning management systems, statewide education programs, digital learning platforms, governance frameworks and evaluation systems to ensure quality, compliance, innovation and value for investment.
About You
We are seeking an accomplished and visionary executive leader with a proven track record leading complex organisations and delivering large-scale workforce capability, education, organisational transformation or workforce reform initiatives in complex service delivery environments.
You will bring:
- Significant senior executive leadership experience within healthcare, education, government or other complex service environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale organisational transformation, workforce capability reform or education system redesign.
- Exceptional strategic leadership capability and experience developing and implementing enterprise-wide workforce, education or leadership development strategies.
- Strong financial, governance and organisational management expertise with responsibility for significant budgets and complex operational environments.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement, influencing and partnership-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across government, health services, universities, professional colleges and industry sectors.
- A commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and the delivery of measurable outcomes that support workforce sustainability and improved health outcomes.
Why Join HETI?
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future capability of one of Australia's largest health workforces. You will influence statewide workforce strategy, leadership development and education innovation while contributing directly to the delivery of high-quality health services for the people of New South Wales.
Leading a highly specialised organisation with statewide reach and impact, you will work alongside senior leaders across NSW Health to strengthen workforce capability, enhance leadership excellence and support a sustainable, future-ready health system.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Proven senior management experience and a successful track record in an organisation with a strong focus on education and training.
