The Opportunity
The Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Team is dedicated to reducing the burden of infectious diseases in children and their families. We achieve this through comprehensive approaches that encompass understanding disease burden, optimising vaccine use, diagnostic and treatment strategies, and evaluating and informing current and future prevention programs, primarily immunisation. As part of our social research activities, we conduct projects that seek to understand reasons for community’s understanding of childhood vaccines and ways to improve vaccine uptake among children and families across multiple communities.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a Research Officer to support our team in a range of projects focused on understanding reasons for vaccine uptake, ensuring efficient functioning and achievement of project specific goals.
Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to the writing of scientific publications and analysis of qualitative data.
- Assist with recruitment of study participants.
- Assist with qualitative data collection (interviews, focus groups).
- Assist with ethics committee, governance and regulatory applications including protocol development, standard operating procedures and other documentation.
Based in our offices within Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, this part-time (0.6 FTE) position will be offered for an initial 2-year period.
About You
The ideal applicant will be passionate about making a difference in childhood infectious diseases and will have the ability to work collaboratively within our supportive team. You will be self-motivated and driven by achieving project outcomes and will thrive working in a fast-paced environment.
Along with this, you will demonstrate:
- Honours or Masters degree (completed or working towards) in public health or health sciences.
- Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis, including one-on-one interviews and leading focus groups.
- Familiarity with software programs such as NVivo, REDCap, Endnote and the Microsoft suite.
- Demonstrated writing skills with previous experience writing research reports and/or academic articles.
