An Allied Health Assistant’s day is varied, rewarding and client-focused. They may begin by reviewing their schedule and delegated care plans before travelling to clients’ homes, community centres or clinics. Their day may involve delivering delegated exercise programs, assisting with mobility or daily living activities, supporting group programs, completing equipment-related tasks, or reinforcing strategies developed by physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech pathologists, podiatrists and exercise physiologists.
Before each service, the AHA reviews the client’s care plan and delegated instructions, confirms the task is within their scope and competency, and considers any identified risks or recent changes. During the session, they follow the clinician’s directions, observe the client’s response and encourage safe participation while working within their delegated scope.
Following each client-facing service, the AHA documents the session, communicates relevant observations and escalates any concerns or changes to the delegating clinician. Their day may also include liaising with clinicians, completing administrative tasks, preparing treatment spaces and equipment, undertaking safety and infection-control checks, attending supervision or training, and managing their schedule and travel between clients.
Applicants will require access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle in good condition. While fleet vehicles may be available, access cannot always be guaranteed.
