ABOUT US
Outback Spirit Tours offers extraordinary adventure tours and luxury short stays that capture the very essence of Australia. From the rugged red cliffs of the Kimberley to the unspoiled beauty of Tasmania, we bring our guests face-to-face with the country’s most iconic landscapes and stories.
Operating eight remote camps and lodges in some of Australia’s most breathtaking and hard-to-reach locations, our passionate team of guides, drivers, camp/lodge hosts, chefs, and operations staff are dedicated to creating once-in-a-lifetime experiences for our guests.
Australia’s leading experiential tourism group, Journey Beyond, is privileged to operate 20 brands spanning the country and New Zealand, connecting guests to the land, and to each other.
Headquartered in Adelaide, Journey Beyond formed in 2016 and now comprises tourism brands including: iconic trains The Ghan, Indian Pacific, Great Southern, The Overland; premium small-group outback operator Outback Spirit; eco-luxury lodge Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef; aquatic adventures Cruise Whitsundays, Rottnest Express, Sailaway Port Douglas, Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures, Darwin Harbour Cruises and Journey Beyond Cruise Sydney; our tallest members, Melbourne Skydeck and Eureka 89; the historic Vintage Rail Journeys; The Telegraph Station in Alice Springs; Monarto Safari Resort; Exmouth Dive & Whalesharks Ningaloo, New Zealand coach tour specialist Grand Pacific Tours, and Voyages Tourism Australia.
ABOUT YOU
Do you have a passion for the outdoors, adventure, and creating unforgettable guest experiences?
Outback Spirit Tours is seeking motivated hospitality all-rounders to join our teams at remote Camps and Lodges across Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.
If the idea of dining under star-filled skies, bird watching in Cape York, or connecting with the untouched wilderness of Arnhem Land sounds like a dream - imagine being paid to live there, with free meals and accommodation included.
Our guests join us on multi-day luxury small-group adventures, and we pride ourselves on delivering excellence at every touchpoint. That’s where you come in...
ABOUT THE POSITIONS
We have a range of rewarding opportunities for adaptable, enthusiastic team members who thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy variety in their day. Some positions will begin in February, with the majority starting in April. Most Lodges and Camps are set to close in September, while a select few will extend until November.
While we’re currently recruiting a large number of Camp/Lodge Attendants, we’re also seeking talented individuals with additional skills to fill a selection of specialised hybrid roles at some of our locations.
Camp/Lodge Attendants (All-Rounders)
Our Attendants are the heartbeat of our operations, providing exceptional guest experiences across multiple areas:
- Provide exceptional food and beverage service
- Complete housekeeping and laundry duties to luxury standards
- Welcome and farewell guests with warmth and professionalism
- Assist with dishwashing and general cleaning as needed
- Maintain lodge and camp facilities, including vehicles and staff areas
HYBRID POSITIONS
Chef/Attendant
Combine your culinary skills with a little extra variety:
- Perform all Camp/Lodge Attendant duties
- Cook for guests and staff when required
- Support the Head Chef and cover days off
- Assist with menu planning, meal prep, and kitchen hygiene
- Wash dishes and ensure compliance with food safety standards
Maintenance/Attendant
Use your hands-on skills to keep our properties in top condition:
- Perform all Camp/Lodge Attendant duties
- Conduct minor maintenance and repairs (e.g. plumbing, lighting, fixtures)
- Assist with landscaping and general upkeep of the property and common areas
- Report and assist in diagnosing larger maintenance issues
- Carry out routine safety and equipment checks
Nature Guide/Attendant
Bring the Outback to life through storytelling and exploration:
- Perform all Camp/Lodge Attendant duties
- Lead safe, informative, and engaging guided tours
- Collaborate with Indigenous guides where applicable
- Share insights about native flora, fauna, and local history
- Safely drive guests to and from their destinations and excursions
What will make you stand out to us?
- Current Food Safety Certificate
- Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
- Medium or Heavy Rigid Driver’s Licence
- Current Passenger Driver Authority/Licence
- Chainsaw licence
- Forklift licence
- Proven experience in luxury or high-end hospitality or tourism
- A love for nature and the great outdoors
- A positive attitude and strong team focus
REMOTE LIVING
Our camps and lodges are located in some of Australia’s most remote regions. Many cannot be accessed by road – instead, you’ll be flown to site from Darwin or Cairns via our private aviation network. You’ll live and work onsite for the entirety of the season, typically 5–10 months, without regular access to nearby towns or cities.
This lifestyle offers a rare opportunity to disconnect from the everyday, immerse yourself in nature, and connect deeply with Australia’s vast and beautiful landscapes. While it comes with unique challenges, it’s also one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Amazing opportunity to work in a dynamic, growing tourism business
- Generous discounts on Journey Beyond travel and experiences
- Accommodation and meals provided
- Employee Referral Policy
- Private Health discounts
- Employee Assistance Program
- Discounts on Journey Beyond merchandise
