The Emergency Department Administration Officer plays a key role in supporting the delivery of safe, timely emergency administrative care by providing high quality administrative and customer service support in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • This role requires prior administration skills at an intermediate level and is not an entry level role.
  • Working as part of a dedicated Emergency Department administration team, the role collaborates closely with clinicians and support staff to ensure smooth patient flow and positive experiences for patients and families.
  • Through accurate registration, admissions, effective communication, and the respectful handling of sensitive information, this position contributes directly to patient centred care while developing a broad range of administrative and organisational skills across a 24-hour, seven-day service.
  • As a casual staff member you will be required to work shifts already templated on a rotating roster according to your availability. This is a compulsory requirement of the role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders ensuring you abide by NSW Health policies, observe CORE values and the NSW Health Code of Conduct.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality administrative and clerical support in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Computer literacy and accuracy with proficient computer skills with high-accuracy data entry, and experience using complex databases or electronic medical records.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to interact empathetically with distressed patients and diverse communities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team of clinical and non-clinical staff. Availability and willingness to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including morning, evening, night, weekend, and public holiday shifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise urgent tasks, multi-task effectively, and maintain emotional resilience under pressure with a solid understanding of patient privacy legislation, confidentiality requirements, and a commitment to the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
