Full job description

Your Role
As an Information Technology Specialist, you’ll keep the Army connected and communicating effectively by operating and maintaining advanced networks using the latest Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment. This is no ordinary IT role. You’ll manage sophisticated military software and hardware and play an important role in determining the success of military operations.

In the Army, you’ll be paid from day one to gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job training. You’ll enjoy a competitive salary, job security, opportunities for career progression, mateship, adventure and travel, all while making a difference to Australia.

Common Duties

  • Installing and configuring computer systems as needed by military personnel
  • Preparing and deploying communications equipment in support of exercises and operations
  • Providing technical support on base and out in the field
  • Identifying and remediating software and hardware issues, plus analysing software performance
  • Ensuring cyber and network security is maintained and enforced to protect the Australian Defence Force’s sensitive information
  • Establishing and continuing to monitor communications networks that allow command and control of deployed forces
  • General soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation.

Competitive Salary + Generous Superannuation of 16.4%
Get paid to train from day one and earn a salary: $60,517 per year

Once you’ve completed training, you can earn: $86,453 per year

Your salary will continue to increase based on your rank and years of service.

Location
Once you have completed your training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. Most of these positions are in VIC, the NT, North QLD, South QLD and NSW.

Eligibility
For this role, you must:

  • Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen, and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Maths

  • Be reasonably fit and healthy
  • Be able to have your background checked
