Immediate, Refugee Support Worker jobs

WITH YOU CARE is seeking a dependable, compassionate and professional Disability Support Worker to provide individualised support to a 12-year-old autistic boy in South Melbourne.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people, values consistency, and is committed to supporting independence through structured routines and person-centred care.

Position Overview

The successful applicant will assist the client with daily routines, skill development and community participation. Support must be delivered in accordance with the client's individual support plans and the strategies recommended by Allied Health Professionals.

Employment details

• Location: South Melbourne, VIC
• Employment type: Casual
• Pay: $35–$38 per hour for weekday/standard shifts, with applicable evening and weekend rates
• Commencement: Immediate start available
• Regular shifts: Wednesdays and Fridays, approximately 3:30 pm–8:00 pm
• Preferred availability: 2–4 days per week
• School holidays: Additional flexibility may be required

Previous experience supporting autistic children or young people is highly desirable.

About the Role

You will work closely with the client, family, supervisor and broader support team to provide safe, respectful and consistent support. The role involves encouraging the client's participation in everyday activities while promoting confidence, independence and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with establishing and maintaining daily routines.
• Provide appropriate prompting and guidance to complete daily tasks.
• Support the development of daily living and independence skills.
• Facilitate community participation, social activities and recreational outings.
• Provide transportation and assistance with shopping where required.
• Assist with meal preparation, household tasks and personal care as outlined in the support plan.
• Provide medication assistance only where authorised, trained and required.
• Consistently implement behavioural and therapeutic strategies developed by relevant Allied Health Professionals.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to behaviours of concern in accordance with the client's support plan.
• Maintain accurate progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation.
• Promptly report concerns, incidents, risks or changes in the client's needs to the supervisor.

About You

We are looking for a support worker who demonstrates reliability, patience and a genuine commitment to person-centred support. You should be comfortable working independently while maintaining effective communication with the family and professional support team.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have, or be working towards, a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), Disability Support qualification, or another relevant qualification.

Experience supporting autistic children or young people is highly regarded. Experience responding to behaviours of concern will also be viewed favourably.

Applicants must have Australian working rights.

Required Licences and Checks

The successful applicant must hold or be willing to obtain the following, as applicable:

• Valid Australian Driver Licence.
• Access to a reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Working with Children Check.
• NDIS Worker Screening Check.
• Relevant qualifications and certificates required for the role.
