Location: Geelong - Waurn Ponds

- Based at our Geelong, Waurn Ponds Campus
- Part-time (0.6 FTE) and fixed-term (12 months)
- Research Assistant $79,336 - $86,599 + 17% Superannuation (pro rata, part time)
Why this role matters:
Join the School of Life and Environmental Sciences and be part of exciting research exploring animal and plant-derived compounds. In this hands-on laboratory role, you'll support a range of biochemical and analytical research activities, including sample preparation, laboratory testing and data analysis. We're looking for someone with strong laboratory skills, a keen eye for detail, and experience in biochemistry, analytical science, food science or a related field who enjoys working as part of a collaborative research team.
What you’ll do in this role:
- Conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship
- Engage collaboratively to participate in novel and high-quality research or creative activities
- Communicate outputs, including as part of team
- Support applications for funding for research activities
- Participate in intra- and inter-disciplinary research collaborations
- Build awareness of industry partners and participates in opportunities for research partnerships
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Undergraduate degree in science and/or other relevant qualifications and experience with a focus on biochemistry
- Experience in analytical, biochemical or molecular laboratory required.
- Ability and capacity to contribute to research and administration during the project
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
- Experience preparing samples and solvents for chromatography and mass spectrometry, and interpreting data in software such as MaxQuant/Perseus, Proteome Discoverer, Compound Discoverer, NIST and Workstation
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in biochemical and analytical workflows
