Position: Cook- Indian Cuisine

Business Name: Maple Indian Gourmet

Salary: $75,000 – $80,000 plus superannuation (commensurate with experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate, skilled and experienced Cook (Indian Cuisine) to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. This is a genuine long-term position.

As a full-time Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of Indian dishes to perfection.

Key Tasks:

  • Preparing, seasoning, and cooking a wide range of authentic Indian dishes using traditional and modern cooking techniques.
  • Follow recipes and ensure all dishes are prepared according to the restaurant standards and recipes
  • Planning menus in consultation with management and assisting with food costing and portion control
  • Preparing and cooking meals to order while ensuring consistency in quality, taste, and presentation
  • Monitoring food quality and minimising food wastage through effective stock rotation and portion control
  • Ordering ingredients, checking deliveries, and managing stock levels
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety standards, hygiene regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements
  • Operating and maintaining commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Assisting in the supervision and training of kitchen hands and junior staff as required
  • Maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment at all times

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the team to develop new dishes and improve existing recipes
  • Train and supervise junior kitchen staff if required
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and new cooking techniques
  • Always adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Chef or management team

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience as a Cook in a fast-paced restaurant or similar environment
  • Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery/ Kitchen Management
  • Strong knowledge of Indian spices, ingredients, and regional cooking methods
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Good time management, organisational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new recipes and techniques
