Front of House Staff Job Description

Indian & Nepalese Restaurant

Position: Front of House Staff (Waitstaff/Cashier/Customer Service)Reports To: Restaurant Manager

Position Summary

The Front of House Staff is responsible for providing excellent customer service, ensuring guests have a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience, taking orders accurately, serving food and beverages, handling payments, and maintaining cleanliness and presentation standards throughout the restaurant.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Welcome and seat guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Present menus and explain Indian and Nepalese dishes when required.
  • Answer customer questions regarding ingredients, spice levels, and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure guests receive prompt and attentive service throughout their visit.
  • Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally and escalate issues to management when necessary.

Order Taking & Service

  • Take food and beverage orders accurately using the POS system.
  • Communicate orders clearly to kitchen staff.
  • Serve food and beverages promptly and according to restaurant standards.
  • Check customer satisfaction during meals and respond to requests efficiently.
  • Clear and reset tables quickly to maintain smooth service flow.

Cash Handling

  • Process cash, EFTPOS, and online payments accurately.
  • Issue receipts and reconcile transactions at the end of shifts.
  • Maintain honesty and accuracy when handling money.

Restaurant Presentation

  • Keep dining areas clean, tidy, and presentable at all times.
  • Set up tables, cutlery, napkins, and service stations before service.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations.

Teamwork

  • Work closely with kitchen and management teams to ensure efficient service.
  • Assist colleagues during busy periods.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous hospitality or restaurant experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and multitasking abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of Indian and Nepalese cuisine is desirable.
  • Current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate (if serving alcohol).
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
