Full job description
Travers bushfire & ecology have been undertaking Aboriginal and Heritage Assessments for over 20 years. With our current heritage specialist retiring, an opportunity has opened up for an Aboriginal heritage assessment consultant to join our team and to expand our existing services in this discipline working through out NSW based on the Central Coast.
This is a unique opportunity for an energetic person looking for a long-term role in this field and wanting to create a service based on cultural diversity and respect for the land.
About the roles
- Provide high quality heritage advice and services to a range of stakeholders in relation to the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and the Heritage Act 2017.
- Delivery of legislative advice, preparation of due diligence reports, preparation of Cultural Heritage Management Plans and Salvage Excavations for management of Indigenous cultural heritage, and the preparation and implementation of Consents and Permits to manage historic heritage.
- Assist and train existing staff in artefact identification.
- The participation in, and management of the field work components of these projects will be an essential component of the role.
Essential Criteria
- An honours degree (or higher) involving studies in Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous archaeology. Qualification in Aboriginal artifact identification.
- Qualifications to meet the definition of a Heritage Advisor under Section 189 of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and to supervise an excavation under Regulation 61 (3) of the Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2018.
- Sound knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and the Heritage Act 2017.
- Experience in archaeological fieldwork.
- A high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- High level competencies with the MS Office suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, as you will liaise with team members from different disciplines, clients, and government agencies to ensure delivery of innovative solutions that meet client and broader community expectations.
- Be flexible in geographic locations of work as some travel and some overnight stays may be required.
- Highly organised to plan and manage projects.
