What you will do
As financial assistance scheme (FAS) assessor, you will assess applications for financial assistance under a new scheme supporting victims of violent crime.
You will make fair, well-informed decisions while delivering a trauma-informed and victim-focused service.
You will:
  • assess applications and approve financial assistance payments using legislation, policy and procedures
  • review evidence, identify missing information and provide advice to support application assessments
  • prepare clear notices that explain decisions and the reasons behind them
  • support victim recognition officers by providing practical guidance on trauma-informed victim recognition statements
  • maintain accurate records, promote cultural safety and refer complex matters when needed.
About you
A qualification or experience in community services, social work, criminology, psychology, victim services or family violence is highly desirable. You should also understand the needs of victims of crime and the barriers some people face when accessing support.
You should also have:
  • experience working with victims of crime, family violence or sexual assault
  • strong skills interpreting legislation, policy and evidence to make sound decisions
  • commitment to trauma-informed practice and Aboriginal cultural safety
  • good judgement, critical thinking and the ability to communicate with care in difficult conversations.
