Full job description

CFA is an emergency service that places the community at the centre of everything we do. We work to protect lives and property across Victoria, every hour of the day.

Our organisation is made up of employees working alongside more than 51,000 volunteers. We value the different skills, experience and viewpoints that people bring, because they strengthen how we operate and support the services Victorians rely on.

We aim to be a workplace where people feel supported to do meaningful work, develop professionally and contribute to outcomes that matter to the people and places we serve.

To learn more about who we are and the work we do, visit our About Us page.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly accomplished Workers' Compensation and Self Insurance Manager to lead CFA's WorkCover and Volunteer Compensation programs at a strategic, organisation-wide level.

Reporting to the General Manager, Health Safety and Wellbeing, this pivotal leadership role oversees a specialist team including a team of Injury Recovery Advisors and drives best-practice general claims management: eligibility assessment, income assessment, injury management, and return to work programs. You will engage with executives, functional leaders, employees, volunteers, workers compensation insurers, regulator, internal and external legal and other key stakeholders.

This role involves assisting in influencing leaders and managing the Volunteer Compensation Scheme. Using insight driven reporting and analysis, you will identify opportunities for better and sustainable recovery outcomes to strengthen CFA's self-insurance capability.

This is a role for a confident, credible leader who brings strong technical capability, sound judgement, and a commitment to developing people, applying critical thinking at both strategic and operational levels to deliver tangible outcomes for our people.

A detailed position description is attached. (Please note change of job title).

About you

Success in this role requires the following capabilities and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, preferably with an injury and compensation management focus.
  • Experience in overseeing management and administration of Workers' Compensation schemes.
  • Proven track record in leading and developing an injury management scheme in a complex organisation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to provide authoritative, specialist advice to senior management and executives
  • Ability to negotiate and deliver agreed outcomes.

Why choose CFA

  • Meaningful Purpose: Your contribution truly makes a difference
  • Work-Life Balance: Paid parental leave, generous leave provisions
  • Flexibility: Hybrid work options with flexible work arrangements
  • Discounts: Emergency Memberlink discounts on various services
  • Wellbeing Focus: Health Ready programs, flu vaccinations
  • Member Assistance Program: Access support across 8 service pathways
