About the Role

We are currently expanding our Residential Youth Support Worker team and are recruiting in the Greater Hobart Area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people.

We are seeking Casual Residential Youth Support Workers to work across our 24/7 residential services, with shifts available across days, nights, weekends and sleepovers. We also Permanent Part-Time positions available on a 4-week rotating roster, averaging 66 active working hours per fortnight, plus sleepover shifts.

Permanent Part-Time roster:

• Average 66 active hours per fortnight, plus sleepover shifts
• Day shifts: 8:00am – 5:00pm
• Night shifts: 4:45pm – 8:15am
• Sleepover: 10:00pm – 6:00am

You will spend most of your time in the home supporting children and young people with their daily routines, participating in recreational and community activities, and helping them develop the skills and confidence to thrive in a safe, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

As an LWB Residential Support Worker you will:

• Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement.
• Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage young people, children and families in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and positive self-worth.
• Support the involvement of family and where applicable, facilitate family visits/connection and the promotion of positive family relationships and positive parenting practices with children and young people, to suit individual needs.
• Promote and encourage positive relationships with peers and other persons significant to the child/young person including parents and caregivers.
• Assist the child/young person to participate as full as possible in making decisions about the activities undertaken.

TAS Child Youth and Family Requirements

To received paid employment as a Residential Support Worker in TAS you need to be willing to complete, or actively enrolled or completed a relevant qualification from the list below. We will also take applications from people without a qualification who have relevant experience in the sector.

• Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Preferred)
• Certificate IV in Disability
• Certificate IV in Youth Work
• Certificate IV in Mental Health
• Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs
• Certificate IV in Youth Justice
• Certificate IV in Community Services
• Certificate IV in Community Development
• Certificate IV Community Welfare
• Certificate IV Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care
• Certificate IV Youth Justice

Or any relevant Diploma or Degree level qualification.

• Unrestricted (Opens) Drivers Licence (essential)
• Valid Senior First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)

What happens next?

With a focus on ensuring safety and respect for children and young people in our care, we help guide you through a series of background checks to get you ready to work as a Residential Support Worker.

Successful applicants will be taken through the following process:

• Invited to sit a group interview on 13th October 2026
• Invited to complete reference checks with a child safety focus
• We will conduct a National Criminal History check (paid for by LWB)
• Following the successful outcomes of these checks you will be asked to pay ($90) and obtain a Working with Vulnerable People registration
