Engagement: Contract (6 Months + Extendible) - Hybrid

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced API Developer with strong hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot to design, develop, test, and maintain reliable and scalable RESTful APIs.

The successful candidate will work in a modern microservices environment, collaborating with business stakeholders, technical teams, and Principal Engineers to deliver secure, resilient, and high-quality API and integration solutions.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of REST API design, microservices, API security, relational databases, automated testing, Git, and API documentation, along with an understanding of how AI-assisted development tools can be used responsibly to improve engineering productivity and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build scalable, secure, resilient microservices and integration solutions.
  • Apply REST API design principles and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective API designs.
  • Produce and maintain API documentation, including OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Ensure APIs meet enterprise standards for security, performance, reliability, and quality.
  • Implement appropriate API security mechanisms and authentication/authorization patterns.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, identifying and implementing effective root-cause fixes.
  • Assess the impact of proposed API changes and plan implementation activities.
  • Plan and coordinate API changes, releases, and versioning strategies.
  • Communicate technical designs, decisions, risks, dependencies, delivery plans, and progress effectively.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and present technical solutions to Principal Engineers and senior stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across development, testing, deployment, and API management processes.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, documentation, and delivery outcomes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Solid understanding of REST API design principles and best practices.
  • Experience working with microservices architecture and API integration patterns.
  • Knowledge of API security concepts, including JWT, TLS, authentication, and authorization.
  • Experience working with relational databases and SQL.
  • Familiarity with Git or other source control systems.
  • Understanding of automated testing practices and test-driven development principles.
  • Experience designing and maintaining API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger.
  • Ability to assess the impact of API changes and plan implementation and release activities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions, risks, dependencies, and timelines.
  • Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting solutions to senior technical stakeholders and Principal Engineers.
  • Basic understanding and practical exposure to AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar.
  • Ability to use AI tools responsibly while maintaining appropriate standards for security, code quality, data privacy, and engineering governance.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Experience with API gateways, API management platforms, or integration platforms.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and automated deployment practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based application development.
  • Experience with observability, logging, and production support for APIs and microservices.

Pay: $700.00 – $750.00 per day
