The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer (CMO) in the Emergency Department at Sydney / Sydney Eye
Hospital is to provide clinical care in eye and general medicine to patients requiring emergency medical services in a
complex clinical environment. This position will have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice, with
guidance from the Head of Department and other Staff Specialist, commensurate with the level of experience of the
incumbent. The CMO is responsible for the supervision and guidance of Junior Medical Officers and is a key person
who works closely with all members of the ED team.
The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer (CMO) in the Emergency Department at Sydney / Sydney Eye
Hospital is to provide clinical care in eye and general medicine to patients requiring emergency medical services in a
complex clinical environment. This position will have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice, with
guidance from the Head of Department and other Staff Specialist, commensurate with the level of experience of the
incumbent. The CMO is responsible for the supervision and guidance of Junior Medical Officers and is a key person
who works closely with all members of the ED team.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- A minimum of three (3) years satisfactory full-time post-graduate experience, including recent demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in an Australian Health System.
- Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures and Airway Management Skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to work with appropriate independence, in a general adult and eye emergency within a supervised complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education, including supervision of Junior Medical Officers.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills in a clinical setting within a multidisciplinary team, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealings with patients, team members and supervisors.
