Role Title: Trainee - Immunopathology

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time
Contract Dates: From 1 February 2027 until 6 February 2028 (2027 Clinical Year)
Requisition ID: CAM29860

This advertisement is to apply for the Immunopathology position with NSW Health Pathology. You will also need to apply for the Immunology & Allergy position with Western Sydney LHD (CAM29426) to be considered for the Immunology & Allergy position.

What you'll be doing

The immunopathology department is one of the six major specialities in Pathology, reflected in the structure of ICPMR/Pathology West. It is the major centre for immunology testing within Pathology West and services at least one quarter of the public pathology in NSW. It has a busy Autoimmune serology service, an Immunochemistry department, and provides scientific input into the Flow Cytometry Unit, which is part of the Haematopathology department. There is some limited input into Molecular immunology. The range of experience reflects the vast majority of the practical components of the Immunopathology curriculum of the RCPA. The Trainee supports the immunopathologists in the department, as well as having key direct service responsibilities. It is a training position towards fellowship of the RCPA, or in dual training for the combined fellowship of the RCPA and RACP. Trainees are typically expected to be preparing for Part I and II examinations of the RCPA, and this position is accredited as such.

The purpose of the laboratory trainee position is to provide support to the immunopathology diagnostic laboratory of the ICPMR of Pathology West (and to the Clinical Immunology service as requested) to ensure optimal delivery of the immunopathology diagnostic testing.

Selection Criteria:

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Completion of at least two (2) postgraduate years of medical practice.
  • Demonstrated vocational interest and commitment to a career in Immunopathology.
  • High level clinical skills in internal medicine.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to, and demonstrated track record in, teaching and training of junior medical staff and medical students.
  • A commitment to and participation in clinical research relevant to the position and demonstrated track record in this regard.
  • High level interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.

All applications must be supported by full responses to the Selection Criteria. Applications which do not address or meet the criteria will not be shortlisted.

Late applications will not be accepted unless there are technical issues preventing you from applying. In these instances, the request must be supported by evidence of the issue, steps taken to contact the system administrators and notification to the contact person of this advertisement prior to the advertisement closing.

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2026_004 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

The position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Office of the Children’s Guardian. For more information on how to apply for the clearance, please visit the Office of Children’s Guardian website: https://ocg.nsw.gov.au/working-children-check
