About the role
This is a Fixed Term Position until 20 August 2027
The Managing Principal Lawyer, Royal Commission Response, leads strategic legal and policy advice supporting DTP’s response to the Royal Commission into integrity in the construction industry. The role manages complex legal issues, advises senior decision-makers, leads legal and policy teams, and oversees external legal providers.
Key responsibilities include managing legal risk, governance and compliance; coordinating responses to notices, information requests and compulsory processes; and providing advice on sensitive legal matters. The role also leads, mentors and develops staff, manages external counsel and builds strong relationships with senior stakeholders to deliver timely, high-quality and practical outcomes in a complex environment.

- Provides expert legal judgement on complex and sensitive matters, assessing risks and developing practical, high-quality solutions.
- Builds and influences strong relationships with senior stakeholders, confidently negotiating outcomes and managing competing interests.
- Leads and develops high-performing teams through coaching, performance management and capability development, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture.
- Brings expert knowledge of inquiries, investigations and Royal Commission processes, including complex information requests, privilege, evidence and procedural fairness.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
- Admitted as a lawyer in Victoria and holds (or entitled to hold) a practising certificate (mandatory).
- Minimum 5+ years PAE (desirable).
- Experience in managing legal services in relation to inquiries, Royal Commissions and/or regulatory responses (desirable).
