About Avant
Avant is Australia’s leading medical defence organisation, proudly supporting medical professionals for over 130 years. With more than 90,000 members, including health practitioners and medical students across every state and territory, we provide trusted, market-leading products and services tailored to their professional, personal, and practice needs.
About the role
At Avant, we're committed to making it simpler and easier for our members to engage with us while delivering exceptional service and managing risk effectively.
As a Continuous Improvement Specialist, you will play a key role in identifying, prioritising and delivering process improvements across Claims, Avant Law and Medical Advisory. Drawing on your claims or legal experience, you'll help enhance operational efficiency, improve member experiences and support the evolution of systems, processes and controls across the business.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Claims Excellence, you'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, technology and project teams to identify opportunities for improvement, develop meaningful insights, manage system enhancements and support the successful adoption of change.
Key accountabilities
  • Identify, assess and support the delivery of continuous improvement initiatives across Claims and Legal, leveraging your experience in risk management, governance and process design.
  • Analyse operational performance through reporting suites and dashboards, translating data into actionable insights and recommending opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage and maintain system backlogs, ensuring requirements are clearly defined, well-governed and aligned with business priorities and member outcomes.
  • Partner with stakeholders to support the successful implementation of projects and change initiatives, including communication, adoption monitoring and resolution of implementation challenges.
  • Collaborate with business, technology and project teams to ensure systems, processes and controls continue to support a high-performing, compliant and member-focused organisation.
Key capabilities
  • 10+ years' experience in claims, legal, technical specialist or leadership roles, with at least 5 years' experience in medical indemnity or a similar insurance environment.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering continuous improvement initiatives within claims or legal operations.
  • Strong understanding of operational controls, risk management, governance frameworks and process design.
  • Experience managing system backlogs and requirements, ideally within an Agile environment.
  • Ability to analyse data, reporting and operational metrics to identify trends and drive improvement outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and lead change in complex environments.
  • Proactive, curious and solutions-focused, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, project delivery, change management, training or coaching experience will be highly regarded.
