Full job description

We are seeking a resilient, culturally capable, and passionate NDIS Support Coordinator to join our team. This role is distinct from typical coordination roles; it requires a genuine willingness to travel long distances into very remote communities to connect face-to-face with NDIS participants who face significant barriers to accessing services.

You will act as a vital bridge, navigating complex regional logistics to help participants understand, implement, and maximize their NDIS funding while building local community capacity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Remote Participant Engagement & Coordination

Travel extensively to remote and very remote communities to conduct face-to-face consultations, plan implementations, and reviews.

Support participants to understand their NDIS plans, connect with local or fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) mainstream, community, and provider networks.

Coordinate multi-disciplinary services across vast geographic distances, ensuring continuity of care despite regional challenges.

Resolve points of crisis and develop robust safety nets within the participant’s local community structure.

2. Cultural Competency & Community Liaison

Build trusted, respectful relationships with participants, their families, Traditional Owners, and community elders.

Deliver services in a culturally safe and sensitive manner, adapting communication styles to overcome language and literacy barriers.

Collaborate closely with local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), remote clinics, and local councils.

3. Compliance, Logistics & Administration

Maintain highly accurate, detailed, and contemporary case notes in accordance with NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission rules.

Complete required NDIS reporting (e.g., 8-week and progress reports) within strict key performance indicators (KPIs).

Manage the unique logistics of remote travel, including vehicle checks, remote safety check-ins, and trip scheduling.

Key Selection Criteria (Skills & Experience)

Essential

NDIS Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in NDIS Support Coordination or Case Management, with a thorough understanding of the NDIS operational guidelines and price guide.

Remote Capability & Resilience: Proven experience working in, or traveling to, remote communities, with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by regional participants (e.g., thin markets, limited infrastructure).

Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly Indigenous Australians in remote settings.

Problem-Solving Skills: High-level adaptability and resourcefulness to handle logistical disruptions, weather impacts, and sudden changes in travel plans.

Desirable

A relevant qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology, or a related discipline.

Experience operating 4WD vehicles in challenging terrains and remote safety protocols.

Mandatory Requirements

Current Australian Driver’s License (unrestricted).

Valid Working with Children Check (Ochre Card / Blue Card or state equivalent).

Satisfactory NDIS Worker Screening Check and National Police Clearance.

Up-to-date vaccinations as required for entry into remote health settings or communities.
