Learning Support Teacher

The Salvation Army is seeking a passionate and experienced Learning Support Teacher to join our growing Independent School in Lawnton.
Our school provides a safe, inclusive and trauma-informed learning environment for young people in Years 10–12 who have experienced barriers to education. We are committed to helping every student reconnect with learning, develop confidence and achieve positive educational and life outcomes.
As our Learning Support Teacher, you will play a vital role in ensuring students with diverse learning needs can access, participate in and succeed within the curriculum. Working alongside teachers, youth workers and specialist staff, you'll develop targeted learning strategies, provide specialist support and help create an environment where every student can thrive.
About the role
The Salvation Army Independent School, Lawnton currently supports approximately 125 students, with continued growth planned across Years 10–12.
Our unique model of care provides a highly supportive learning environment, with approximately one staff member for every seven students, enabling personalised learning and strong student engagement.
As the Learning Support Teacher, you will:
- Develop and implement individualised learning strategies and targeted interventions for students with diverse learning needs.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to differentiate curriculum and classroom practices.
- Support students with disabilities, learning difficulties and complex educational needs to achieve their personal best.
- Monitor student progress and contribute to Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) requirements and other reporting processes.
- Collaborate with families, external specialists and community services to coordinate student supports and interventions.
- Promote inclusive education practices and contribute to a safe, supportive and trauma-informed school culture.
- Participate in professional learning and whole-school initiatives that enhance student wellbeing, engagement and achievement.
- Other delegated tasks requested by senior management
A truly collaborative approach
You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to supporting the whole student.
Each classroom includes:
- A Class Teacher responsible for curriculum delivery and classroom management.
- A Youth Worker who provides wellbeing support and strengthens student engagement.
- A Teacher Aide who assists with differentiated instruction and individual learning.
You'll also work closely with our specialist support team, including a part-time Psychologist, to ensure students receive coordinated educational, emotional and wellbeing support.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) registration.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities, learning difficulties and complex educational needs.
- Knowledge of inclusive education practices and trauma-informed approaches.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families and multidisciplinary teams.
- The ability to develop and implement targeted learning interventions that improve student outcomes.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous professional learning.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a Special Assistance School, flexible learning environment or alternative education setting.
