Full job description

Please read the full job description before applying.

Sydney Creative is a busy craft studio in Redfern running candle making, soap making, paint and sip, polymer clay, jesmonite, jewellery making, sewing and more. We’re looking for a fun, crafty workshop teacher to join our team and run a variety of our creative classes.

The role requires someone naturally crafty, but this is only half of the role. The other half is bringing the energy, instructing well, having the confidence to command the room, get people laughing and enjoying themselves. You’ll be leading a room full of people who’ve never tried these crafts before, and making sure every one of them has a great time and leaves proud of what they’ve made.

That means you:

  • Bring the fun. You’re warm, upbeat and great at getting a room relaxed and chatting
  • Have the confidence to lead a room and project your voice, whether it’s a small public class or a hens party of 30+
  • Can explain each step simply and clearly for complete beginners
  • Know when to help and when to step back, so guests feel supported but still get to make it their own
  • Keep an eye on the whole room, spotting anyone who’s struggling, even if they don’t ask for help
  • Know how to pace a class, so a chat with one person never leaves the rest of the room waiting and everything finishes on time
  • Can be fun but firm when needed, including enforcing studio policies and safety rules and handling challenging situations professionally

If you’ve taught, hosted events, performed, or worked in hospitality or customer-facing roles, that experience counts just as much as your crafting skills.

About the role

You’ll run a range of our workshops, including candle making, soap making, paint and sip, polymer clay, jesmonite and jewellery making. Full training is provided for each class. You’ll teach both our public classes and private events like hens parties, birthdays and corporate team building, plus occasional mobile workshops at client locations.

This role doesn’t have a fixed weekly roster. Shifts vary depending on bookings, and may include:

  • Weekday evenings, finishing around 10pm to 10:30pm
  • Some weekday daytime sessions, mainly corporate team building
  • Saturdays and Sundays

Some weeks you may have several shifts and other weeks fewer, so this role suits someone with flexible availability. Please make sure evening and weekend work suits your lifestyle before applying.

As well as teaching, you’ll set up and pack down the studio, prepare materials, and help keep stock up to date.

Key responsibilities

  • Run a variety of creative workshops with energy, enthusiasm and patience
  • Introduce each class, explain activities and guide participants through their projects
  • Support participants of all skill levels so everyone has a fantastic experience
  • Run private events, including hens parties, birthdays and corporate team building
  • Run occasional mobile workshops at client locations
  • Prepare materials and set up the studio before each class
  • Pack down and reset the studio between sessions
  • Assist with stock management
  • Keep the studio clean, organised and looking its best

About you

  • Super crafty and hands-on, with a genuine love of arts, crafts and making
  • Fun, outgoing and genuinely enjoy being around people
  • Not afraid of public speaking, and able to hold a room’s attention with confidence
  • Comfortable hosting hens parties and private events
  • Happy to stay on your feet and on the studio floor for the whole class, so guests always feel comfortable asking for help
  • Happy to appear in photos and videos for our social media
  • Proactive and able to spot what needs doing without being asked
  • Organised, punctual and reliable
  • Available for evening and weekend shifts
  • Looking for a role you can grow with long term
  • Bonus if you can sew

The details

  • Casual
  • $32-40 per hour + super, depending on experience
  • Classes run from our studio at 140 Regent St, Redfern, with occasional mobile and offsite events across Sydney

Why join Sydney Creative?

We’re a small team committed to building a fun, supportive and creative workplace. We love what we do, and our goal is to give every customer an experience they’ll remember. There are opportunities to train in more of our classes for the right person. If you love making things and being around people, we’d love to hear from you!

Send us your CV, a few photos of things you’ve made or a link to your Instagram, and answer the screening questions.

Please apply through the indeed platform only. Due to the number of applications we receive, only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. Please refrain from calling the studio or message us on social media about your application.
