About Us:
Victims, Redress and Systems Reform (VRSR) is part of the Community Safety, Victims and Racing Group within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VRSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of our justice system, as well as direct service provision through a range of programs including the Victims of Crime Helpline, Victims Register and the Victims Assistance Program.
Asset Confiscation Operations (ACO) is a business unit within VRSR that is responsible for the management and realisation of restrained and forfeited property, and the enforcement of pecuniary penalty orders, in accordance with the Confiscation Act 1997 (the Act) and other relevant legislation. Property can be restrained to satisfy restitution or compensation orders in favour of victims of crime which creates synergies between ACO and VRSR's support services.
What you will do
As confiscation officer, you will manage confiscation matters under limited supervision.
You will make sound decisions, prepare clear written advice and help deliver fair and timely outcomes.
You will:
- manage confiscation files and restrained assets under the Confiscation Act 1997 and department procedures
- interpret court orders and carry out accurate enforcement action
- investigate and enforce pecuniary penalty orders using effective intelligence gathering and civil enforcement methods
- prepare clear briefs, memoranda and advice for management and court matters
- build strong working relationships with Victoria Police, the Office of Public Prosecutions, courts, government agencies and financial institutions.
About you
A tertiary qualification in law, public policy, criminal justice or a related field is desirable. You should understand the Confiscation Act 1997 or be able to quickly learn and apply its requirements.
You should also have:
- strong written communication skills for reports, correspondence, briefings and advice
- the ability to interpret legislation and apply it in day-to-day work
- sound analytical skills to solve problems and manage competing priorities
- a collaborative and inclusive approach, with the ability to build productive working relationships.
