About the role
Woollahra Council has a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Support Officer to join our growing team. This role sits within our newly created in-house Legal Services Unit which is responsible for the provision of high quality and responsive legal services across the organisation.
Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will provide administrative support to the General Counsel and wider team who deal with a range of Council matters including planning law, privacy, tendering, property, contract, information access, governance and environmental compliance.
Some of your duties will involve:
- Delivery of high levels of customer service in the management of submitters for Land and Environment Court development appeals.
- Management of Court diary, correspondence, customer enquiries and divisional records.
- Preparation, collation and filing of Court documents.
- Invoicing
- Timely drafting of communication and responses with staff, the Community and Councillors.
- Accurate and timely agenda preparation and minute taking.
Essential Criteria:
- Demonstrated experience in providing high level administrative support in a complex, political and fast paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated professional competence in legal office management, management of Land and Environment Court litigation and communication with submitters, business administration or related discipline and/or alternative relevant qualification.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills with the ability to confidently liaise across all levels within the Council and externally.
- Proven ability to research relevant information, interpret and formulate recommendations or provide advice, and independently participate in project related work.
- Demonstrated use of initiative and ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy of work.
- Able to adapt to a changing environment and to undertake different tasks each day.
- Demonstrated professionalism, ethical behaviour and commitment to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to WHS and EEO principles.
