Temporary clerk grade 9/10 opportunity up to 18-months, ($133,348 - $146,94, based in 52 Martin Place.
Expressions of interest are invited from ongoing employees at grade within Aboriginal Affairs who wish to be considered for this Temporary role.
About the Role
The Department Liaison Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting the effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the Minister’s Office on behalf of Aboriginal Affairs. This position is responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and managing the timely flow of information, correspondence, and key briefing materials between Aboriginal Affairs and the Minister’s Office, ensuring that matters are communicated accurately, professionally, and within required timeframes. By fostering strong working relationships and maintaining clear lines of communication, the role helps ensure that priorities, issues, and departmental initiatives are effectively conveyed and actioned.
The Department Liaison Officer also contributes to the smooth coordination of responses to ministerial requests, supports decision-making processes, and assists in managing competing priorities across both offices. As a key point of contact, the role is critical to maintaining a productive and collaborative relationship between the Department and the Minister’s Office, promoting alignment, responsiveness, and the successful delivery of government objectives.

Strategic Advice and Issue Management: Provide expert advice and respond to complex issues impacting the Department, including whole-of-government matters and priorities identified by the Minister’s Office, ensuring risks, implications, and emerging issues are identified, assessed, and addressed effectively.

Stakeholder Liaison and Coordination: Liaise with departmental stakeholders to coordinate requests from the Minister’s Office, ensuring correspondence, briefings, speeches, and other materials are prepared accurately and delivered within agreed timeframes.

Briefing and Correspondence Development: Prepare high-quality briefs, submissions, and correspondence for the Minister’s Office on behalf of, and in consultation with, the Department, ensuring information is clear, accurate, and aligned with government priorities.

Relationship Management: Develop and maintain productive working relationships and partnerships with key departmental stakeholders to facilitate information exchange and support the provision of timely, strategic, and high-quality advice to the Minister’s Office.

Collaboration and Operational Support: Work collaboratively with and provide support to the Minister’s Office during periods of high workload, including Parliamentary sitting weeks, budget processes, and Estimates hearings, to ensure critical priorities are delivered effectively.

Records and Information Management: Maintain accurate and compliant records in accordance with statutory obligations and Aboriginal Affairs record keeping requirements, ensuring information is managed appropriately and remains accessible and auditable.
