Full job description
Join In-house Legal as a Junior Lawyer, PO3, supporting the Business and Corporate Partnership model across DPI and NRMMRRD. You will primarily provide legal advice and representation for the National Fire Ant Eradication Program, while also contributing to the broader Appeals and Prosecutions team.
In this role, you will perform legal work under close supervision, including file management and court appearance work in smaller, more straightforward matters. You will undertake legal research, prepare advice and documents for review by senior lawyers, support land valuation appeals, prosecutions and other litigation, and assist with briefs to Counsel, briefs of evidence, disclosure material, appeal record books, correspondence and court bundles.
Success in this role will rely on your legal qualifications, drafting skills, attention to detail, willingness to undertake court appearances and ability to build practical litigation experience in a complex public sector environment.
To apply for this role, you will need to submit the following documents:
A copy of your current resume (2-3 pages recommended), detailing your previous work, voluntary or relevant experience, and the contact details for two referees who have personally observed you displaying the key duties, responsibilities and capabilities of this role, plus
A brief cover letter (1-2 pages) introducing yourself to the panel and showcasing how your 'About you' skills, and capabilities will enable you to make a valuable contribution to the department.
Why work for us?
The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development (NRMMRRD) plays a critical role in supporting Queenslanders across the state, from Cairns to Mount Isa to Warwick - by delivering strong regional outcomes, fostering local economies, and strengthening government-community partnerships. As stewards of over 60% of Queensland's land and key supporters of industries such as mining and manufacturing, our reach and impact are vast.
We are committed to putting our people first - empowering staff, celebrating success, and encouraging innovation. Our workplace is mobile, flexible, inclusive and respectful, and we are focused on growing united, capable leaders. Flexible working options supporting work-life balance
Generous leave provisions across the Queensland public sector
Professional career development and training opportunities

The chance to help #deliverforqld and be part of Queensland's long-term prosperity.
