About the Branch

The Economic Development and International Branch provides advice to the Premier on a range of international engagement, economic development, skills and TAFE, jobs and employment, investment attraction, innovation, regional development, tourism and major events, sport and recreation and creative industries issues.

Teams across the branch also play a key role in providing advice on the policy and other outputs of the portfolios supported by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions.

The branch also provides whole of government coordination for the Victorian Government’s international engagement priorities and activities and supports the international travel of the Premier, Deputy Premier, and Governor of Victoria.

About the Role

Working within the Economic Development and International Branch, you will work closely with team members and colleagues across the Victorian public service to deliver strategic leadership and advice in relation to a range of portfolios.

You will thrive in a fast paced and collaborative environment. The position requires the flexibility to respond to rapid change, and strong management and planning capability to deliver a varied work agenda.

We are seeking candidates who will contribute to a high performing culture, deliver successful outcomes, develop team capability and be a leader within the branch.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide authoritative advice on complex policy issues to the Premier, Deputy Premier, Cabinet, Secretary and senior leadership across DPC.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies, policies and programs as required.
  • Facilitate strong relationships with stakeholders across DPC, other government departments and external parties, and represent DPC in a variety of forums.
  • Lead and manage policy advisers, including workload allocation and supervision of staff as required, with a focus on individual and team effectiveness and wellbeing.

About You

We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience from the following criteria:

  • Excellent analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with sound judgment, ‘can do’ attitude, and capacity to assess options and make clear recommendations.
  • Experience delivering high pressure strategic policy advice, projects or programs under tight timeframes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to develop strong, productive partnerships and work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Highly developed people management skills, aligns team with organisational values and goals through effective people management, coaching and modelling and supports a high performing team to deliver high-quality outcomes in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding leadership capabilities, with demonstrated ability to build a positive workplace culture.
