Full job description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of one of our clients for a skilled and experienced Motor Mechanic or 4th-Year Apprentice to join their established automotive workshop in New Town, Hobart.

This is a full-time opportunity for a reliable and technically capable automotive professional who takes pride in delivering high-quality servicing, repairs and customer service.

The successful candidate will work across a wide range of vehicles and mechanical issues in a supportive and professional workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical faults.
  • Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and vehicle inspections.
  • Test, repair and replace vehicle components, including brakes, engines, transmissions and suspension systems.
  • Carry out engine and transmission overhauls where required.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Identify worn, damaged or faulty components and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding vehicle issues and repair requirements.
  • Complete work accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Follow workshop safety procedures and quality-control standards.
  • Stay updated with current automotive technologies and repair methods.
  • Support other workshop team members when required.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • A relevant trade qualification in Automotive Mechanical Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience as a Motor Mechanic, Automotive Technician or 4th-Year Apprentice.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive servicing, maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults.
  • Experience working with brakes, engines, transmissions and drivetrain systems.
  • Engine and transmission overhaul experience will be highly regarded.
  • Confidence using hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills.
  • A valid Australian driver’s licence.
  • Own tools relevant to the role will be highly regarded.
