About the role

As the Product Design Engineer you will work in our R&D department reporting to the Design Team Supervisor. Key duties include:


  • Design Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including technical specifications, CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and test plans; support development of manuals, installation guides, and technical data sheets.
  • PLM & Change Management: Support PLM system updates and engineering change processes (ECR/ECN), ensuring data integrity and controlled implementation of design changes.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Assist in the evaluation and refinement of new and modified designs to ensure compliance with performance, quality, and reliability requirements.
  • Project Development: Support delivery of product development projects in line with the organisation’s Product Development Process, ensuring timely achievement of key milestones.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable standards and product approval requirements; monitor and respond to regulatory changes impacting existing products.
  • Technical Support & Innovation: Contribute to preparation of technical documentation and support innovation activities, including concept development and sustainability-driven design improvements.
  • Root Cause & Continuous Improvement: Support root cause analysis of field, warranty, and test issues; contribute to continuous improvement and cost optimisation initiatives.
  • Design Reviews & Risk Management: Participate in design reviews, risk assessments (e.g. DFMEA), and feasibility studies.
  • Testing & Data Analysis: Assist with laboratory testing, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Product Launch Support: Maintain accurate technical records and provide technical support during product launches and early production, with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency.

About you

You will also:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering (Preferred Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, mechatronics or similar)
  • Internship or project experience in product design and development is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in 3D CAD modelling with Inventor
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Good business sense with a goal-focussed work ethic
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience in water heater technology, materials science and electrical/electronic design.
  • Experience working with Australian and International Standards.
