About the role:
Western Health has 35+ Medical Hospital Medical Officer (BPT2) positions available for the 2027 Clinical Year.
Western Health offers a highly supportive, clinically rich, and professionally exciting environment in which to train. A dedicated education program tailored to basic training, includes 4 hours per week of structured teaching, in addition to Grand rounds, simulation-based training, and numerous professional development workshops.
All Basic Physician Trainees are provided rotations through the Greater Western Consortium (GWC) comprising Western Health (Footscray Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Williamstown Hospital), Melbourne Health (RMH), and Ballarat Health Service.
Rotations available to BPT2s include:
- Cardiology
- Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology
- General Medicine
- Hospital in the Home
- Intensive Care
- Nephrology
- Neurology
- Oncology
- Palliative Care
- Respiratory Medicine
- General and Specialty Medicine Cover/Nights
Rotations are allocated via a preference-based system, with pre-determined annual rotational planners, ensuring a breadth of exposure and achievement of BPT training requirements.
Applications:
Western Health Basic Physician Training (BPT) positions are recruited as part of the PMCV Matching. Applicants must apply to both PMCV and Western Health. Please note, PMCV eligibility criteria apply.
Key responsibilities:
- Work under the supervision and support of the registrar or consultant to further develop general clinical and decision-making skills
- Assume responsibility for patient care in accordance with the care model of the ward/unit, ensuring that clinical procedures are performed in accordance with Western Health policy and procedure
- Ensure quality patient care via clinical assessment, admissions and development of management plans
- Participate in on-going assessment of competencies via a mid and end of term unit assessments

- A medical qualification recognised in Victoria, Australia
- Current Australian medical registration
- Clinical competence as required for level of position
