The Nuclear Medicine term at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) offers junior doctors a unique opportunity to gain experience in a highly specialised specialty that plays a critical role in the diagnosis, management and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions.

Working alongside Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Radiologists, Technologists and multidisciplinary clinical teams, trainees are exposed to the use of advanced imaging techniques and radionuclide therapies across oncology, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology and general medicine. The role provides valuable experience in patient assessment, image interpretation, diagnostic pathways and the clinical application of molecular imaging technologies.

As a major tertiary referral hospital, RNSH manages a diverse and complex patient population, offering exposure to a broad range of nuclear medicine investigations and therapies. Trainees gain insight into how nuclear medicine contributes to patient care through accurate diagnosis, disease staging, treatment planning and monitoring of therapeutic outcomes.

This term is ideal for doctors interested in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Oncology, Internal Medicine or other specialties seeking a deeper understanding of contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic imaging. What you'll be doing

The Nuclear Medicine SRMO is expected to provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.

  • Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
  • High level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a career in medical imaging, especially Nuclear Medicine
  • Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
  • Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
  • Understanding and promotion of collaborative effort and empathy within a heterogeneous team environment such as the Medical Assessment Unit.
  • Excellent academic record commensurate with experience, evidence of on-going learning, teaching activities potential involvement with projects and research publications.



Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

To be employed by NSW Health, applicants must provide evidence of vaccination and comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive (PD2024_015). Compliance with this policy, including any amendments made from time to time, is a mandatory condition of employment.

Applicants will be required to provide acceptable evidence of their vaccination status, immunity, and any other occupational health requirements relevant to the position. Evidence must be submitted and assessed in accordance with NSW Health requirements prior to commencement.


Working with Children Check

This position requires a Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance issued by Service NSW. A current and valid WWCC is a mandatory requirement for appointment to this role.

Applicants who do not already hold a WWCC clearance will need to apply for one through Service NSW.
