Join VMIA as a Claims Specialist – Medical Indemnity and manage complex claims from assessment through to resolution. Use your expertise, sound judgment and client-focused approach to deliver fair, defensible outcomes for Victoria’s public health sector.

As a Claims Specialist – Medical Indemnity, you will manage a portfolio of claims from initial assessment through to resolution, delivering timely, defensible and client-centred outcomes.

You will apply your knowledge of medical negligence, duty of care, personal injury law and policy coverage to assess liability, establish reserves, negotiate settlements and identify recovery opportunities.

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager – Medical Indemnity, you will join VMIA's Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions division and help deliver best-practice claims management for clients across the Victorian public sector.

  • Manage medical indemnity claims end to end

  • Build trusted client relationships and provide clear guidance through sensitive claims

  • Develop evidence-based claim strategies and recommendations

  • Engage and oversee legal providers and expert advisers

  • Exercise delegated authority to establish reserves and settle claims in line with VMIA's Claims Management Manual and governance requirements

  • Identify emerging risks and portfolio trends

  • Contribute to process improvements, knowledge sharing and cross-functional initiatives across VMIA

  • Participate in supervision, debriefing and wellbeing initiatives that support a resilient, trauma-informed workplace
