Where you'll be working
Where you'll be working
Royal North Shore Hospital pharmacy department (approximately 6 months) and Ryde Hospital pharmacy department (approximately 6 months).
What you'll be doing
As an Intern Pharmacist within NSLHD, you will complete a structured 12-month supervised practice program designed to support your transition to registered pharmacist practice while contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
You will:

Rotate through a range of pharmacy services across Royal North Shore and Ryde Hospitals, including clinical, dispensing, medicines information and production areas.

Develop clinical knowledge and skills under the guidance of experienced pharmacists and recognised clinical specialists.
-
Work collaboratively with patients, carers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support the safe and effective use of medicines.
-
Participate in education, quality improvement, research and professional development activities that contribute to both personal growth and service excellence.
-
Complete the requirements of an accredited Intern Training Program and local intern education program.
-
Contribute to departments that have a strong reputation for innovation, research and clinical excellence.

Build the foundations for future career opportunities, including potential progression into an established pharmacy foundational residency program following completion of the internship year.

To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
We are unable to accommodate visa sponsorship for applicants requiring a visa for this position.
- Bachelor/Master of Pharmacy or equivalent degree and eligible for provisional pharmacist registration with the Australian Healthcare Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an intern pharmacist with an ability to rotate across RNS/Ryde Hospital sites and participate in after hours, weekend and public holiday work as required.
- Describe a situation where you worked with people from different professional backgrounds, personalities, or levels of experience to achieve a common goal. What was your role, what challenges arose, and what did you do to ensure a positive outcome?
- Describe a medication-related problem that you identified when reviewing a patient on clinical placement or with work experience. In your response, explain:
- How the issue was identified.
- The patient or therapeutic factors that were relevant.
- The potential risks to the patient.
- The actions taken to resolve the issue and the outcome.
In addition, briefly outline any activities, achievement or experiences that demonstrate your high level of clinical pharmaceutical knowledge and understanding of its application in therapeutic situations.
- The intern year requires balancing clinical responsibilities, study requirements, assessments, deadlines, and personal wellbeing. Provide an example of a period when you had multiple competing priorities and significant workload demands. How did you prioritise tasks, maintain performance, and support your own wellbeing?
- Describe an occasion where you identified a workflow problem, or opportunity for improvement during a placement, employment, university activity, or volunteer experience. What steps did you take to investigate the issue, what actions did you implement or recommend, and what was the outcome?
