This position is suited to a Senior Associate or Special Counsel with strong medical negligence experience looking to access the best of Health clients across public and private hospitals, allied health and true advisory relationships with leading government and private health services.
The workflow will include medical negligence claims, coronial inquests, disciplinary proceedings, professional indemnity disputes and healthcare regulatory matters. You will also get involved in driving emerging risk areas impacting healthcare providers and organisations.
Working closely with respected leaders in the field, you will gain exposure to sophisticated litigation strategy, direct client engagement and high-profile matters that often attract significant public, regulatory and commercial scrutiny, while building contributing to the development of junior lawyers.
The Role
You will advise and represent a diverse healthcare client base across a broad range of contentious and advisory matters, including:
- Medical negligence and health-related disputes
- Coronial inquests and commissions of inquiry
- Professional disciplinary and regulatory proceedings
- Investigations involving healthcare providers and organisations
- Clinical governance, risk and compliance matters
- Privacy, consent and healthcare regulatory issues
- Public liability and professional indemnity claims
- Network with leading healthcare institutions and practitioners
- Mentor junior lawyers, strengthen client relationships and contribute to the ongoing growth of the practice.
If you enjoy the Health space but want to practice more fully and at the institutional level then this role will appeal as an avenue to do that. You will be aligned with two very supportive partners that will encourage that growth.
About You
- 7+ years' PQE in litigation, insurance or health law
- Strong defendant insurance experience, ideally including medical negligence, professional indemnity or health-related claims
- Experience managing complex litigation, coronial inquests, regulatory investigations or administrative law proceedings
- Commercially minded with strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
- Strong PIPA experience desired but not necessary
