Primary objective
Work in a multi-disciplinary team environment assisting the Scientists as part of Territory Pathology, contributing to the provision
of an efficient, safe, clinically responsive, comprehensive diagnostic, analytical and advisory service for clients of Royal Darwin
Hospital Facility and surrounds.

Context statement
This recruitment process is particularly targeting staff with well developed general laboratory, specimen reception, registration and
specimen handling techniques. The position will require working on a shift roster including nightshift rotation of 1:5 weeks. The
position maps to CF3 on the Northern Territory Public Sector Capability Framework.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
2. External to the laboratory (specimen collection) and Internal to the laboratory (specimen processing, registration, preparation,

dangerous goods transportation, basic pathology testing, performance of preventative maintenance, quality control and
loading of analysers.

3. Interpret pathology request forms to ensure appropriate specimens are safely collected for requested tests, understanding
pre-analytical variables that can affect accuracy of test results, to ensure clinical utility of the reported result.

4. Clearly communicate specimen requirements to patients, medical and nursing staff

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Education, Qualifications and Work History: Certificate III Laboratory Techniques or other relevant qualification awarded by

an Australian institution, or equivalent; or relevant experience in a field of technical laboratory work closely related to the
duties of this position is mandatory. A current Dangerous Goods certificate, as part of International Airsafe regulations.

2. Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated communication skills to facilitate liaison with clinicians, and other professionals from a
range of backgrounds. Keyboard skills with minimal data entry errors are required. Demonstrated laboratory skills to complete
simple testing and other pathology laboratory duties are required.

3. Personal Qualities: Recognises and reports inappropriate workplace behaviour, improper conduct and conflict of interest.
Stays focused and work effectively in challenging circumstances, rescheduling and reorganising work to reflect changes in
priority. With the appropriate level of support, demonstrated ability to make difficult decisions that are fair, equitable and
transparent, without favouritism, self interest or bias. Demonstrated interest and willingness to develop own knowledge and
capabilities, while sharing learnings with others. Build relationships and work with others to meet shared objectives.

Desirable
1. Relevant experience to participate in a blood collection roster, as required.
