Full job description

Your role:
As a Weapon Technician in the Army, you’ll be responsible for inspecting, repairing and reconditioning the Army’s ever-growing range of military hardware, from advanced weapons, to armoured vehicles to watercraft and diving gear.

No prior experience in weapons is required – whether you're already trade qualified, or keen to learn one from scratch, you’ll receive comprehensive training and skills required to grow and succeed in your role.

Your Military duties include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Diagnose, maintain and repair the Army's fleet of weapons that includes: pistols, rifles, shotguns, machine guns and grenade launchers
  • Diagnose, maintain and repair complex weapon systems, workshop equipment, miscellaneous equipment and perform general engineering tasks
  • Work with specialist teams on advanced armoured vehicle armament systems and artillery platforms
  • Perform safety and technical inspections on weapon systems and specialist equipment
  • General soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation.

Salary:
In the Army you'll get paid a competitive salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $60,517 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.

On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you could earn $95,741 per annum plus generous super.

Location:
Following your initial military training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. The majority of these positions are located in North QLD, QLD, SA and NT.

Eligibility:
For this role, you must:

  • Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen, and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English, Mathematics and Science (with a Physics content) and one other subject
  • If you are not an Australian Citizen, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page to confirm you meet the requirements for a career in the ADF
  • Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
  • Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
